CS Endeavors
Building Strong CS Foundations in Middle School
CS Endeavors builds a strong CS foundation for middle schoolers across four units. Students learn to program in Scratch across Block Coding 1 and 2, explore the technologies shaping their world in CS Innovations — augmented and virtual reality, the Internet of Things, generative AI and big data — and spend a full unit away from the screen on Unplugged Algorithms. Block Coding 2 builds directly on Block Coding 1; the other two units stand alone and can run in whatever order fits your schedule.

Course Breakdown
Four units, 185 lessons, 959 items and about 159 hours of material. Block Coding 2 builds directly on Block Coding 1 — custom events after events, complex conditionals after conditional loops — while CS Innovations and Unplugged Algorithms are self-contained and can run in whatever order suits your school year.
Block Coding 1 — Scratch Fundamentals
Students meet Scratch and build up to synchronized, multi-sprite projects — learning events, loops, coordinates and variables by making things move, talk and play music.
Block Coding 2 — Programs with State
The second Scratch unit moves past simple scripts: custom events, cloning, lists and state let students build games that remember what has happened.
CS Innovations — Technology in the Real World
The technologies students already live with, taken apart: augmented and virtual reality, connected devices, generative AI, and the data and media tools behind them.
Unplugged Algorithms — Computing Without a Computer
A full nine weeks away from the screen. Students sort each other as a human sorting algorithm, act out a morning routine to see loops in real life, map processes onto flowcharts, and finish with a final project showcase.
